Design concept
Designing furniture for Johannes Torpe has always been a way of clearing his mind, and intuitively this provided the starting point for the Heartbreaker Sofa as well. His restless personal state induced by feeling heartbroken was processed during sleepless nights while doodling. Drawing inspiration from this life event, Johannes translated human emotions into contemporary furniture design, and the idea of the Heartbreaker Sofa came to life. Inspired straight from the heart, this collection is a modern, artistic furniture collection that advocates a distinctive approach to design.
Such a novel design concept called for the collaboration of long-lasting friend, Patrizia Moroso and the expertise of Friuli-based Moroso. In order to turn the concept into reality, the usual practise of Moroso in the development of designer objects had to be challenged. Instead, the Heartbreaker Sofa collection was brought to life based on Johannes Torpe´s ability to approach products with a genuinely free and intuitive frame of mind.
By combining Danish minimalism with Italian artisanal craftmanship, the Heartbreaker Sofa is a refined, elegant personal statement. The pure, geometric shapes enhanced by the meticulously chosen materials make the sofas heavy-duty, hence suitable for residential use as well as for everyday use in a work environment.
Design details
The stylistic hallmark of the Heartbreaker Sofa lies in the design of the armrests representing the halves of a heart, or a broken heart. This fine-drawn feature of the armrests allows to combine the sofas in a way so they form a full heart placed side by side. Hence the name, which playfully alludes to a broken heart or ironically to a “heartbreaker”.
The second distinguishing feature of the sofa collection is the metal base profile. Available in a variety of finishes, it visually enhances the sofa and imbues its substantial volume with a lighter touch. Thanks to the refined join to the core of the product, the metal base appears almost like a silver plate. Made out of chromed steel, it frames the Heartbreaker Sofa and creates an atmosphere of grandiosity and exclusivity.
